As summer slips into fall, I am reminded of how the services we offer here at Goodwill/Easter Seals are assisting people who might otherwise slip deeper into poverty, people such as Shayne and his daughter Lilly, pictured above. You can help families such as Lilly's with a gift as small $25.
Life was good for Shayne - a job, a home and excitement about becoming a father. Then his fiancée left, and he was alone. His child would be born without a father in her life.
"I went into a downward spiral - anxiety, depression. I lost my job, which led to me losing my apartment. I became homeless,” Shayne says.
Shayne sought help from Goodwill/Easter Seals' FATHER Project. He set goals and the FATHER Project provided support, legal assistance, parenting classes and job training. Shayne resolved to be the best dad he could be. Today, Shayne is working and earning more than he did before job training.
